What Does It Mean to Be B Corp Certified?

What Does It Mean to Be B Corp Certified?

At Talent Hive, we believe business should be a force for good, not just for profit. That belief aligns closely with the principles behind B Corp Certification, a globally recognised standard for responsible business. But what does it actually mean to be a Certified B Corporation?

A Quick Overview

Being B Corp Certified means a company has been verified by B Lab, the nonprofit behind the certification, as meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability.

Through the B Impact Assessment (BIA), companies are evaluated across five key Impact Areas:

  • Governance – mission, ethics, and transparency

  • Workers – treatment, wellbeing, and professional development

  • Community – diversity, inclusion, and local impact

  • Environment – sustainability and resource use

  • Customers – ethical practices and the positive impact of products or services

To become certified, a business must achieve at least 80 points on the BIA, legally commit to stakeholder accountability, and recertify every three years to maintain its standards.

Why It Matters for Talent Hive

As a hospitality recruitment partner, Talent Hive connects people with purpose. We help build strong teams for businesses that care about their culture and their people.

Our partnership with The Burnt Chef Project is central to that mission. The project works to end mental health stigma in the hospitality industry, offering education, support, and training across the sector. These actions directly align with the Workers and Community areas of the B Impact Assessment, focusing on wellbeing, inclusion, and access to support for those in our industry.

“The hospitality industry is built on people — their energy, creativity, and care. For me, being aligned with B Corp principles is about protecting and empowering those people. It’s about proving that doing good and doing well in business can go hand in hand.”
Will Gennard, Founder and Director, Talent Hive

By aligning with B Corp values, we hold ourselves accountable to the same principles we promote — people, purpose, and positive impact.

The Bigger Picture

B Corp Certification is more than a label; it is a commitment to continuous improvement. It challenges businesses to measure their impact, identify areas for growth, and share progress transparently.

For Talent Hive, this means continuing to:

  • Prioritise mental health and wellbeing in hospitality

  • Create inclusive opportunities for candidates and clients

  • Operate responsibly with people and planet in mind

In Summary

Working toward B Corp standards means striving for more than financial success. It represents a genuine commitment to making a positive difference through the way we recruit, collaborate, and support the hospitality community.

At Talent Hive, our purpose is clear: to help the hospitality industry thrive by supporting people, promoting wellbeing, and driving a more sustainable future for everyone who works within it.
